20 Fall Date Ideas for Couples on a Budget (2019)

Fall is in the air! And with it comes colorful leaves, cool breeze, and the perfect time to fall in love. Get it? Fall in love?

Autumn is one of my favorite seasons – from the apple cinnamon treats to the cozy sweaters. It’s the perfect time to enjoy seasonal activities with your better half. Although I’m a sucker for romance, enjoying time with your loved one can be expensive! That’s why I’ve scoured the internet (and my fave fall memories) to compile a list of the best fall dates that won’t break the bank.

You’ll be hand-in-hand with your darling before you can say “pumpkin spice latte!” Let’s get this show on the road.

Go to a Pumpkin Patch

Do you remember those exciting trips to the pumpkin patch as a kid? It can be just as fun to go as an adult! Browse through the rows of pumpkins, and pick out the best one to decorate your home. Most pumpkin patches also have other attractions to visit as well, such as a harvest-themed marketplace. Bonus points for wearing matching flannel shirts!

Pick Some Apples

Apple flavors are a fall staple – from apple cinnamon to caramel apple. Why not pick fresh ones by hand to use in your fall desserts? The sparks will fly as you spend a pleasant afternoon strolling through the apple orchards and enjoying your sweetheart’s company. Take your harvest back to your kitchen, and make some fresh pastries together.

Get Lost in a Corn Maze

Nothing says bonding more than getting lost together. Wander through walkways of corn until you make it to the other side. Steal a kiss at each dead end for some extra cuteness!

Visit a Renaissance Festival

Huzzah! Enjoy jousting, giant turkey legs, and medieval characters at the renaissance festival. A previous festival I visited even had a woman doing aerial yoga high up in the trees! Many counties have their medieval festivals between the end of September to late October. It’s the perfect location to tell your boo “thou dost takest my breath away.”

Visit a Cider Mill

Sip fresh, warm apple cider and munch on donuts at your local cider mill. Many will offer tours so you can see how their apples are pressed, sample their different treats, and buy locally grown sacks of apples. It’s the perfect date for the apple of your eye!

Go for Coffee

Visit a cozy coffee shop to spend time up close and personal with your significant other. Sometimes having an uninterrupted discussion can help you learn new things about your partner, even if you’ve spent years together! Bring a card or board game along, or simply have a basic coffee date with good conversation.

Walk through a Haunted House

Have a friendly competition to see who jumps the most! If there are no haunted houses close by, consider searching for a haunted walking trail. Plus, it’s the perfect excuse to hold hands with your partner!

Getaway to a Cabin

Lock up your cell phones, and enjoy each other’s company in a cozy cabin at your nearest national park. Many Airbnb stays are relatively cheap, and you’ll save money by packing and cooking your own food. Not sure what food to pack? Consider buying a meal kit delivery box and taking it with you. Here’s my favorite meal kit recommendation – with three, ready to cook meals for you and your love!

Cozy Up at a Drive In

Drive in theaters are the perfect vintage fall date to indulge in. Pack your car full of blankets, pillows, and snacks to enjoy with your favorite human. Make it even more interesting by snapping some Polaroids to save the memory!

Try a Wine Tasting

Depending on where you live, many wineries will offer specials on wine tastings. Check third party websites such as Groupon and Living Social to see what’s available in your area. Spend a leisurely afternoon with your love, making pour decisions and expanding your palate.

Enjoy a Slice of Germany

Oktoberfests are popping up left and right at restaurants and bars around this time of year. Stuff your face with bratwurst, sauerkraut, and barrels of beer as far as the eye can see. Some Oktoberfest celebrations even have wiener dog races, which are extremely fun to watch.

Go to a Harvest Festival

The best part about harvest festivals is that they feature many different activities – from live music to hayrides! Search online, or get a copy of your local magazine or newspapers to find a harvest festival near you.

Set Up a Pumpkin Carving Station

Carving pumpkins is a must-do tradition for every spooky season! Design one together, or compete to see who can make the best one. There are so many ideas online, along with free printable stencils to help guide you. Use some acrylic paint and stickers to get creative! Here’s a pumpkin carving kit to help get you started.

Ride on a Tractor

Are you up for a tractor ride? Local farms typically host hayrides during the fall. Cozy up to your honey and admire the scenery while you ride through the colorful farmland.

Have a Scary Movie Marathon

Pop some popcorn, gather your fluffiest blankets, and put your brave face on as you watch some scary movies! Spooky season isn’t complete without watching something that keeps you up at night. If really scary movies aren’t your speed, swap them out for some animated movies such as Coraline and The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Go on a Ghost Tour

Many cities hold buildings and landmarks that have rumored ghost sightings. Groupon is a great resource to find walking ghost tours led by locals. You might just spot something spooky!

Cook a Fall Dinner

Cooking together can be a very romantic activity. With all the amazing fall flavors, there’s a variety of dishes to choose from. Try your hand at turkey chili with butternut squash noodles, or even cranberry stuffed pork chops. If none of those suit your fancy, search on Pinterest for recipes that’ll have your taste buds singing!

Visit a State Park

Whether you’re hiking, biking, or driving through, state parks have low entry costs with scenic views. Pack a picnic and pop a squat in a beautiful location, or stroll through the leaf-covered trails.

Have a Bonfire

Spark a new flame (or rekindle an old one!) at a bonfire. Whether you attend an organized one or have your own, you can never go wrong with telling stories around the warmth of a fire. Grab some graham crackers, chocolates, marshmallows, and skewers to make yummy smores!

Create a DIY Paint and Sip

Paint and Sips have become all the rage lately, but they can be steep in price. Set up a DIY paint and sip by grabbing some cheap paints and canvases from a nearby craft store. Pick up a couple bottles of your favorite wine and get to painting! Click here to find some step-by-step painting tutorials. Here’s where you can purchase two paint sets for under $30!
